| A few years ago, I decided I would leave my home of 6 years, Chico, California, and move to Sacramento. I hadn’t taken a photograph since high school, but I had made up my mind that I would enroll at Sacramento State, one of just a few schools in Northern California with a Photography department, and learn to be a Photographer. I pretty much went all-in from day one, taking every class, learning every technique, doing whatever I could to learn photos and the business of photos. I interned with a great wedding photographer, Debbie Norman, with a few local publications, and with Sacramento State’s public relations department. My last semester at school, I took an internship with the Office of Governor Schwarzenegger, and the fantastic photographer Peter Grigsby. About a month after I graduated, Pete left Sacramento for sunny So-Cal, and I was asked to step into his shoes and take over as the Governor’s photographer. During the last two years of the Schwarzenegger administration, I traveled the world, creating a visual record of the Governor’s efforts to better California. I now work as a photographer and graphics designer for the California Emergency Management Agency, and for Governor Brown. |
